Over the past several months, the Nolensville Police Department has received a growing number of citizen complaints and has also observed firsthand an increase in issues involving e-bikes and electric dirt bikes. Many of these concerns involve unsafe operation, a lack of awareness among riders regarding applicable traffic laws, and uncertainty within the community as this technology has developed faster than public understanding of the laws that govern it.

In response, the Nolensville Police Department launched an initiative focused on education, awareness, and officer training. We partnered with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and Williamson County Schools to help educate the community while ensuring our officers are fully informed about the legal responsibilities and enforcement options related to these devices. Our department has conducted roll-call training for officers, developed informational pamphlets for riders and parents, and worked to provide the public with clear guidance on what is and is not lawful.

Our primary concern has always been safety — the safety of juveniles riding these e-bikes, the motoring public, and pedestrians using our sidewalks and streets. While education remains a critical part of our approach, it has become clear that education alone has not been enough. As a result, we are now moving into the next phase of this initiative: enforcement.

This enforcement effort is not intended to punish children for the sake of punishment. However, we are seeing repeated violations and increasingly dangerous behavior. Juveniles who violate traffic laws while operating e-bikes, including riding unlawfully on sidewalks or roadways, may be cited. If a rider attempts to flee from law enforcement, that is a serious offense and may result in arrest and transport to juvenile court. Parents should also be aware that they can be held responsible if they knowingly allow unlawful behavior to continue, and they may face legal or civil consequences if property is damaged or someone is injured.

We want kids to enjoy being kids. We recognize that e-bikes are popular and, for many families, are exciting gifts and a convenient way to get around. However, many of these machines are capable of speeds exceeding 40 miles per hour. When operated without proper supervision, training, and respect for traffic laws, they can become extremely dangerous. Nolensville has already experienced several serious e-bike crashes, and we do not want to see a tragedy occur before this issue is taken seriously.

The Nolensville Police Department will continue its public education efforts and remains committed to training, transparency, and community engagement. Moving forward, enforcement will be an important part of that strategy. Our goal is not to take away fun, our goal is to protect lives.

We appreciate WKRN and Andy Cordan for partnering with us on this PSA and helping highlight the concerns we are seeing here in Nolensville.

🚗 Check Your Tires, Don’t Guess on Pressure! 🚗

Always inflate your tires to the manufacturer’s recommended pressure, not the maximum number on the tire. You can find the correct pressure in your owner’s manual or on the driver’s side door frame label.

⚠️ Inflating to the tire’s maximum pressure can be unsafe. Protect your vehicle, your tires, and your safety. Check your pressure today!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Nolensville Police Department
Nolensville, Tennessee

Lieutenant Michael Hofer Graduates from Prestigious FBI National Academy

The Nolensville Police Department is proud to announce that Lieutenant Michael Hofer has successfully completed the 11-week FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia—one of the most respected and selective law-enforcement leadership programs in the world.

The FBI National Academy is attended by less than one percent of the nation’s law-enforcement officers and brings together leaders from across the United States and international agencies. Participants undergo advanced instruction in leadership, behavioral science, physical training, investigative strategies, public safety management, and modern policing practices. Completing this program requires unwavering commitment, academic excellence, and significant personal and professional sacrifice.

“Lt. Hofer’s graduation from the National Academy is a tremendous accomplishment for both him and our department,” said Chief Dale Armour. “He spent nearly three months away from his family and this community to undertake some of the most rigorous leadership training available in our profession. His dedication reflects not only his commitment to service but also the values we hold as an agency.”

Lieutenant Hofer’s achievement further reinforces Nolensville Police Department’s mission to provide the best-trained and most professionally educated officers to the residents of our growing community. His newly acquired knowledge and leadership training will directly contribute to strengthening internal operations, mentoring future supervisors, and enhancing the department’s ability to serve with excellence.

“Every day, we strive to raise the standard of policing in Nolensville,” Chief Armour added. “Lt. Hofer’s accomplishment at the FBI National Academy demonstrates that we are investing in our people, investing in leadership, and investing in the safety and well-being of the citizens we serve.”

The Nolensville Police Department congratulates Lieutenant Hofer on this outstanding milestone and thanks his family for their support during the Academy. His achievement reflects the continued commitment of the entire department to professional development, high-quality service, and the pursuit of excellence.
