Liquor-by-the-Drink License

Liquor-by-the-drink licenses are issued by the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission (ABC).   All businesses that sell wine or liquor must contact the Alcoholic Beverage Commission to apply for a liquor-by-the drink license.  You can contact the Alcoholic Beverage Commission at (615) 741-1602 to obtain additional information and apply for a liquor-by-the drink license.

The Town of Nolensville is to receive a copy of the state liquor license application. All business that approved to sell wine or liquor in Town limits must pay a privilege tax to the Town of Nolensville. The privilege tax fee amount is determined according to seating available at the establishment. The business will pay the privilege tax fee to both the state and to the Town on an annual basis. Retail Package Liquor Licensing Requirements

Within the corporate limits of the Town of Nolensville, the number of retailers licensed to sell alcoholic beverages other than beer is limited. The maximum number of licensed retail package liquor stores is one (1) retailer per five thousand (5,000) residents, based on the most recent federal, state, or local census recognized by the Town.

A retail package liquor license must be obtained from the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission (ABC). Before submitting an application to the ABC, applicants must receive approval from the Nolensville Board of Commissioners.

Applicants must submit a Certificate of Compliance application along with a $500 application fee. The proposed business location must also be publicly posted to indicate that it is applying for a liquor license, whether for a new location or a change in ownership.

Applicants are encouraged to review the Town of Nolensville Municipal Code, Ordinance 25-32, and applicable state laws to fully understand all licensing requirements.

Retail Package Liquor Application Process

The Town of Nolensville will accept Certificate of Compliance applications and application fees for the lottery or random drawing process for the following dates:

Monday, January 12, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. through Friday, January 16, 2026, at 4:00 p.m.

If only one complete application is received during the application period, the Board of Commissioners will not conduct a lottery or random drawing. Instead, the Board will consider approval of the application, provided all Municipal Code requirements are met. Upon approval, the Board will authorize the Mayor to sign the Certificate of Compliance.

If more than one complete application is received, a lottery or random drawing may be conducted. During a properly noticed public meeting, the Board of Commissioners will consider a resolution approving the application selected through the lottery or random drawing and authorizing the Mayor to sign the Certificate of Compliance.

If no applications are received between January 12th and January 16th, applications will be considered on a first come first served basis.
