  • To plead not guilty and request a trial, email the clerk at court@nolensvilletn.gov

Is there any way to keep this citation off my driving record?
There is an opportunity to take a defensive driving class in order to keep a moving violation from appearing on your driving record. If you have no moving violations and have not attended a defensive driving school within the past 3 years, you are eligible for traffic school. You may sign up for school by emailing the court clerk before your due date. This will keep the violation off of your driving record and insurance. Be prepared to pay the $75 cost of the citation when signing up for traffic school. (NOTE: CDL holders are not eligible for traffic school.)

Email the court clerk at court@nolensvilletn.gov to register for an online traffic school.

What if I can't attend court on the date I am scheduled for?

The date written on your citation is being treated as a due date, not a court date. You may either pay the citation, request traffic school or plead not guilty and request a trial before the date listed on your citation.

If you have already emailed the court clerk and received information for a Zoom trial but are unable to attend at the scheduled time, please email the court clerk before the trial date and time to avoid receiving a Failure to Appear.

What if I want to plead not guilty and contest the citation at a trial?

Trials are for not guilty pleas only. To plead not guilty and request a trial, email the court clerk at court@nolensvilletn.gov.

What if I don't appear in court or satisfy the citation before the due date?

If you fail to appear in court on your assigned date on a traffic citation or fail to satisfy this citation before your scheduled date and time, you will be charged with Failure to Appear, assessed an additional $50 fine, and your Court date will be rescheduled.  A letter stating the previous will be mailed to the address that appears on the citation.  If you again fail to appear or pay the citation, the Tennessee Department of Safety will be notified to initiate suspension of your license.

What if I go to court, but don't do everything the Judge orders?

If you fail to comply with the Judge’s orders, you will be charged with Contempt of Court, assessed an additional $50 fine and offered a new court date. Failure to comply includes not attending a driving class and/or not paying the amount as ordered by the Judge.  If you fail to appear on the new court date or pay the citation, the Tennessee Department of Safety will be notified to initiate suspension of your license.

How many points will go on my driving record?

That depends on what your charge was. You can refer to the Tennessee Department of Safety Schedule of Points Values.
